My Cubing Adventure
I had a friend who could solve the Rubik's Cube under 30 minutes... Thought that was really cool...then I started to learn solving the cube on my own. I solved my cube for the first time in June 2004, and got addicted to it ever since. FYI, My first cube wasn't the original Rubik's Cube... Because I'm living in Indonesia, and it is very hard to find the original one (or I must say...impossible)... I could only get cheap "Made in China" imitation cube. The cube was strong enough to accompany me for about 4 months...before it eventually broke. I actually broke my sub-60 AVG using it (just unbeliavable it could stand that long:). Finally I got my first original Rubik's Cube from my friend Dimas in December 2004.
The Internet was very helpful too. Lots of resources, great tutorials, and motivating stories of speedcubers... The first speedcubing video I saw was Dan Knights' sub-20 video. Which when I saw it, I just couldn't believe my eyes... Man, that was too fast for me:) The video gave me motivation to learn more about speedcubing. The next video I watched, that even inspired me more was Macky's 12.11 seconds World Record. He suddenly became my hero:D What I think was... Wow! 20 seconds is fast! Now look what this kid can do... That was amazing stuff!!
All I can say is... cubing is very addictive!
My Cubing Method
Most of the time, I use Jessica Fridrich's layer-by-layer method. I combined algorithms from Jessica, Macky, and other speedcubers' webpage...that I found suitable to my cubing style. Later on, after I mastered the cube, I found some algorithms on my own. For full explanation about my method, check out the Methods page.
